Rambles

My cat, Lucy will be six years old in December. I still remember the day we brought her home from the SPCA when she was just a scrawny little cat. She’s a full grown cat now and never fail to demand for our attention. She was just pretending to be shy and hiding behind my curtain.

I saw this signage in the ladies’ restroom at Woodlands Civic Centre quite some time ago. I wonder if anyone had taken it down by now. If you happen to visit that restroom, please ensure that you “keep cleaning” the toilets. Hehe…

Please keep cleaning

Wari bought the Coach bag for me when he was in the US a couple of weeks ago. It’s my belated birthday present. I love it!

At a glance, I thought it was just a freckle that suddenly appeared on my left cheek. It didn’t worry me until I realized that the brown spot was growing. Fortunately, it was still a small light brown spot that I could still cover with some foundation and powder. However, I got a bit panicky because I don’t want to end up with a dark patch of skin pigmentation on my face. I quickly rummaged through my drawer for a small bottle of Elizabeth Arden skin whitening serum. After applying the serum on the wretched spot for several days, I could see an improvement in its appearance. The spot stopped growing and became a lighter shade of brown. Now, I can only hope that it will disappear for good in the next few days.

Thanks to Luzian for the lovely photo of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.

I took a cab to school today and it cost me exactly $10 inclusive of the $2 peak hour surcharge to travel from my office in Jurong East to NTU. I didn’t mind paying for it because I hate taking the feeder bus service number 179 to campus. It’s always crowded especially in the evening when most people are going home.

My tired mind drifted away as the professor went on and on with her lesson. At times, I had to snap out of it as she went around the class asking questions. Every now and then, I’d look at my watch wishing that I could speed up time so that I could go home and get on with my Scrabulous game, check my emails and watch TV.

Aliya was already asleep when we picked her up from my mother’s place. I need a nice, long shower now.

Yay, the sofa set that we ordered a month ago was finally delivered to our home yesterday. I paid a price for the sofa but it’s definitely worth the money. It’s big and cosy that I almost fell asleep while watching House. I’ve been watching a lot of TV lately and neglecting my books. I’m bad but I’ve got plans to hit the books later today. Really, it’s true. Now I need to get some sleep.

Update: Aliya loves the new sofa too.

As you can see, I’ve changed the design template and also updated my About page. I just realized that it’s sort of therapeutic to mess around with the blog. Kind of strange but it does help to relieve some stress after a long, hard day at work.

Note: Need to change the header image.

Testing…testing…good, it’s still working. I haven’t posted in this wee blog for quite a while because there’re more important stuff that crops up everytime I login to post an entry. Like yesterday, I had to make my move on Scrabulous and watch an episode of Grey’s Anatomy before going to bed. I’ve been putting aside reading the textbook for my Management of Information Organization class because its quite dry and boring. Good to read if you’re having insomnia and can’t fall asleep, the book will put you to sleep within 10 to 15 minutes at most. Since it’s lunch time now, thought I’d just sneak in to post an entry before going down for a walk. I’m just freaking tired during the fasting month.

About a month ago, I decided to try a different hair salon near my work place to have my hair cut. It was the worst hair cut I had ever had in my entire life. My hair was horribly layered until there were short ends jutting out all over the place. I tried rebonding my hair which only worsened the condition of my hair as it became very dry. It was very embarrassing to be seen with such bad hair. In the end, I went to Courts to purchase a straightening iron and applied some special hair products that had to be ordered online just to tame my poofy hair. The haircut was not the end of my misery. The chemicals from the hair colour product they used made my scalp very itchy for many days. That would be the first and last time I would go to the hair salon. It taught me a lesson. I should have gone back to my regular hairdresser.

I’m having a long weekend because tomorrow is my day off and Friday is a public holiday. It’s a much needed break although I’ll be spending most of the time catching up with my assignments and hopefully study for my exams. However, I’m not going to do anything much tomorrow except spend the day with my hubby, Wari because it’s our 10th wedding anniversary. Wow, I can’t believe we’ve been married for a decade. And to think that it all started with a local BBS (Bulletin Board System) known as East Muddy. I wonder where our friend, Ismadi is today. He was the sys admin of the BBS.

Recently, I’ve been taking my dinner late at night because my classes usually finish around 9.30 pm. As a result, I’m putting on some weight, especially now that I’m hardly exercising. I know it’s just an excuse to blame it on my lack of time, but I really don’t have the mood now that my exams are just around the corner. I promise myself to get back on the treadmill or brisk walking once I have cleared my exams.

I got tired of looking at the old design. Furthermore, after upgrading WordPress, some of my favourite links disappeared from the website, so I decided to give it a new look with light green colour. I like the close up of the water droplets because it’s very refreshing.

I have decided on a To Do List for 2007:

1. Complete my Master’s dissertation.
- I am still in a holiday mood. I expect to be in full swing when term starts next week on Monday, 8 January.

2. Look for a new job?
- I am currently contemplating whether I should quit my job and concentrate on my studies this year. It is not easy to juggle work, school and family at the same time. Lack of focus in any one area can be quite detrimental.

3. Spend more time with my family.
- My schedule is so tight that when term starts, I tend to spend less time with my family. I must make sure that Sundays are strictly for family only.

4. Travel to New Zealand.
- This is also a “must do” for this year. I have started saving money for this trip since August 2006.

5. Clear out the junk.
- This is an ongoing task. Whenever I see something that I have not used for ages, I would either throw the item or put it in the recycling bin.

Well, my To Do List is actually more than what I have stated above but these are at the top of my mind right now. I have stopped making New Year resolutions such as “I should exercise more to keep fit” or “I must lose weight”. I know they are not going to happen.

I was surprised when my three-year-old daughter came to me with her sad little face and showed me her broken baby doll with no arms. She remained silent when I asked her about the missing arms. My mum overheard our conversation and told me what happened to the wretched doll.

Aliya usually takes a nap with my mum in the afternoon. Yesterday, she refused to sleep and decided to play with her baby doll on my mum’s bed. Aliya was swinging the baby doll when it hit my mum right smack in her face just below her right eye. The doll’s head is hard and it hit her face with a loud thud. My mum screamed in pain and her first reaction was to take the doll and rip out the arms.

Both my mum and Aliya shed tears. My mum was in pain and Aliya was very sad about her broken doll. I believe she did not mean to hurt her grandma. Anyway, Aliya apologized to my mum, put on an angelic face and asked for a new doll. I would have refused to get her a new one, but my mum gave in and promised to buy it for her. Sigh…
